Who really cares?
who Cares anyways?
What do you see? People? Who really cares these days?
***discloser is a refleciton about what my pastor spoke on Sunday…..these are my perspective on the topic….please do not be alarm or think my Pastor is crazy…lol…its like what the Pope did, a book report….of what my pastor spoke and then my views inbetween***
We live in a society that we quick to judge and do it so often that we assume what we do is normal. Today at church my pastor talked about people and how we treat others. This is a sensitive topic because we never like how to treat people because we feel that we have good people skills and know how to do it. But he used the example of what if we had a homeless person walk in to the church, how many people in a nice cozy affluent or established church would open their hearts and give a helping hand? Who would truly practice what we taught? It may not have to be a homeless person but someone who dressed differently or acted “abnormal” where would we stand? A lot of people can ask who cares about me? We read scripture about taking care the widows and orphans but what about everyone else in between?
The answer my pastor gave were three good and simple examples.
1. An authentic Christian in Matthew 25: 31-40 because what ever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me…v.40b. If we truly are genuine and sincere about our faith, we would not judge a person because of their circumstances, we would do everything to the best of our ability and means that God gave us 24/7. What ever we do it is for God and there shouldn’t be strings attached to it. This isn’t one of those one time do-good offers that done only once. But instead we do this every day, it isn’t about opening your most intimate thoughts with a person but sometimes its just about treating them like a human being and being a friend to them. I used volunteer at the Mustard Seed with my C&C and sometime the most enjoyable time was after dinner and talking to some of them. Its about you making the first step and just giving them a chance to talk or even vent.
This is the same about friendship. Sometimes you just have to trust in yourself and trust in them. Most of the deep connections I had with some friends were because I made time to get to know them and build the trust with them. As a friend, I just sometimes let them vent or vent with them it is just something that comes natural and not forced. It takes time to chat and build upon each other. It is always good to surround people who can encourage and support you in life but sometimes you can learn more from friends who live life on the edge and don’t follow or live life accordingly to what God had said. Because these are the people that God’s wants and loves as well. How we treat them is a good sign to what our understanding and relationship with God is. Judgement of how someone acts is not our call or anyone else except God. We have to just accept people and help them when they need help. As well, my pastor said that authentic Christians should be like James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. We always need to practice what we read and place our faith in. It means that we shouldn’t care what our peers think or do and just do it like Nike says. We have the power to change lives and if we can tap into what God is trying to teach us it would be amazing to see it in action.
2. The next answer about who cares and the obvious is Jesus. John 11: 35. The bible’s shortest verse yet the most overlooked as well. “Jesus wept” Just think about God cried for the death of his friend. It showed God’s humanity and as well the compassion he has for everyone. Everyone could say that God could have prevented but he isn’t like a Genie in the lamp that grants everything for us because we don’t like the circumstances or the way things will end but instead it just shows how there is a time for everything and sometimes it hurts God just as much as us when “bad” things put a kink or hole in our lives. I can’t say that I know or understand everything but I have gone through enough death and hardships in the past that God is truly the rock in our times of trouble and he doesn’t waiver or turn his back on us, instead he is picking us up or trying to help. It’s a matter of do we want to accept our circumstances and most of all God’s help in the situation.
3. The next obvious answer are various examples found in the old testament. Of where God cared about so many people like Abraham, Moses, Jonah and many others in their time of need. Some people may think that God had only choose to help his chosen people but in Jonah’s situation he wanted to save the people of Nineveh, some destructive people or there was Noah, which precedes Abraham and he chose to save Noah and his family from the great flood.
Who cares? Do you? Do I? Is there a little switch to turn it on and off? Sometimes I know I try to switch it off when I say that I am tired or busy with work and life but just think about it. How hard is to invite someone from school or church to coffee and to get to know each other? WE can all do the talk now its about application and just simply doing it.
